Mikel's Offers you can not refuse
"Ukatu ezin duen eskaintza bat egingo diot" hain da ospetsua eta naturala den ildoa, non zaila den hura inspiratzen duen ezer imajinatzea. Hala ere, The Godfather idazterakoan, Puzo XIX.mendeko Honoré de Balzac idazle frantsesean inspiratu zen, zehazki 1835eko Le Père Goriot eleberrian. Le Père Goriot-en esaldi batek irekitzen du Puzoren liburua, eta une batean Balzac-en eleberriko pertsonaia batek beste pertsonai bati esaten dio: “Kasu horretan, inork baztertuko ez lukeen eskaintza bat egingo dizut”, eta horrek ezaguna dirudi.
“I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse” is such a famous and natural line that it’s hard to imagine anything inspiring it. However, when writing The Godfather, Puzo was inspired by 19th-century French author Honoré de Balzac, specifically his 1835 novel Le Père Goriot. A phrase from Le Père Goriot opens Puzo’s book, and at one point a character in Balzac's novel tells another character, “In that case, I will make you an offer that no one would decline,” which sounds familiar
